Jovvi lead glass is not simply “glass with lead.” Its quality is defined by three technical parameters:

• Lead equivalence accuracy – guaranteed at ±0.05 mm Pb from nominal value (e.g., 2.0 mm Pb actual = 1.95–2.05 mm). This ensures no over-engineering (unnecessary weight) or under-shielding.
• Optical distortion limit – < 3 arcminutes of deviation, meeting IEC 61331-2 Class A for diagnostic viewing.
• Radiation-induced discoloration resistance – tested under continuous 100 kVp X-ray exposure for 500 hours, with ΔE (color change) < 2.0.

All Jovvi panels are polished on both sides (not merely ground) to prevent light diffusion, which is critical when viewing high-resolution monitors through the window in a CT control room.

Beyond standard medical use, Jovvi glass is also specified for veterinary CT (animals cannot follow verbal instructions, so direct visual contact is essential) and mobile X-ray screening containers (e.g., airport cargo inspection).

Unlike decorative or architectural glass, medical lead glass must be produced under a validated process. Jovvi’s production system includes:

• Batch formula locking – each production batch uses a digitally recorded recipe (lead oxide percentage, cerium oxide for browning prevention, and fining agents).
• In-process checks – every 30 minutes, density and visible light transmittance (VLT) are measured. Out-of-tolerance batches are rejected before annealing.
• Final inspection – 100% of panels undergo:
  • X-ray imaging (60 kV, 3 mA) to reveal lead striations or voids.
  • Light box inspection for bubbles >0.5 mm (IEC allows < 1 per 100 cm²; Jovvi internal standard < 0.5 per 100 cm²).
• Certification pack – each delivered panel includes:
  • Factory lead equivalence test report (using ISO 4037 reference radiation qualities).
  • Dimensional drawing with serial number.
  • Installation instructions and torque specs for frame clamping (to avoid glass fracture).
