Product Description
Neurological Positioning Non-Magnetic MRI Wheelchair
Function

The Neurological Positioning Non-Magnetic MRI Wheelchair is designed for patients with complex positioning needs due to neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, Huntington’s disease, or multiple sclerosis. The chair features an extensive set of adjustments: seat depth (14 to 18 inches), seat width (16 to 20 inches via removable spacers), backrest angle (0 to 25 degrees), headrest height and angle, lateral trunk supports (pads that can be tightened to keep the patient centered), adduction pads (to keep the patient’s knees together), and a pommel (a plastic bump between the patient’s thighs to prevent sliding). All adjustments are made with plastic knobs and brass locking pins – no tools required. The chair also includes a non-magnetic tilt-in-space mechanism (0 to 30 degrees) for pressure relief.

Application

This wheelchair is for neurological patients who cannot maintain a stable sitting position in a standard wheelchair. These patients often require customized positioning to prevent falls, reduce spasticity, and maintain airway patency. In the MRI setting, these patients are often sedated for their scans, and proper positioning is even more critical when the patient is unconscious. The lateral trunk supports and adduction pads keep the patient centered so they do not slide toward the MRI bore wall. The tilt-in-space function allows the patient to be positioned at an angle that reduces reflux or respiratory distress during sedation. The chair can also be used as a positioning device inside the MRI bore: the patient can be scanned while in the chair if the chair’s dimensions allow it to enter the bore (the chair is 24 inches wide at its widest point, suitable for a 70-cm bore).
