Jovvi’s titanium tools begin not as finished goods, but as titanium sponge – the porous form of titanium produced from mineral ore (ilmenite or rutile). This sponge is melted with aluminum and vanadium in a vacuum arc furnace to create Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V ingots.
From Ingot to Bar Stock:
- Ingot is forged and rolled into bar stock (round or hexagonal)
- Bar stock is annealed to relieve internal stress
- Ultrasonic testing checks for internal voids or inclusions
- Each bar receives a heat number – the foundation of traceability
What the Mill Test Report (MTR) Confirms:
- Titanium content: ≥90% (typically 90–91% by weight)
- Aluminum: 5.5–6.75%
- Vanadium: 3.5–4.5%
- Iron: <0.25% (critical for non-magnetic property)
- Oxygen: <0.2%
- No ferromagnetic inclusions detectable
Incoming Verification at Jovvi:
Every bar stock shipment is sampled and tested with X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer. The XRF confirms titanium percentage and screens for ferromagnetic contamination (iron, nickel, cobalt). Any bar failing the ≥90% Ti threshold is rejected and returned to supplier.
Why This Matters for Your MRI:
A tool with 85% titanium and 5% iron may still be weakly ferromagnetic. Jovvi’s ≥90% specification with <0.25% iron ensures magnetic susceptibility remains below χ < 5 × 10⁻⁶ – safe for 7T MRI.
Laser Mark Link:
Each finished tool receives a batch number that traces back to the original heat number of the bar stock. Enter the batch number on Jovvi‘s portal to view the MTR.
Factory commitment:
“We don’t guess about titanium content. We test every batch before machining, and we laser-mark the proof on every tool.”
