Product Description
Raw Material: Certified Ti-6Al-4V Bar Stock

Jovvi begins with Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) bar stock from ISO 13485-certified suppliers. Each batch includes a Mill Test Report (MTR) confirming:

  • Composition: 90% Ti, 6% Al, 4% V, < 0.25% Fe, < 0.2% O (maximum)
  • Tensile strength: 950–1100 MPa
  • Hardness: 34–38 HRC (before heat treatment)
  • No ferromagnetic inclusions (>0.01% Fe triggers rejection)

Factory quality check: XRF spectrometer verifies composition on every bar before machining.

Step 1: CNC Machining (Wrenches, Screwdrivers, Hex Keys)
Tool Type Machining Process Key Precision Parameters
Wrenches 5‑axis CNC milling from forged Ti bar (or fully machined for custom sizes) Jaw opening tolerance: ±0.05 mm; Parallelism: <0.1 mm
Screwdrivers Swiss‑type CNC lathe for blade; milling for tip geometry Tip concentricity: <0.05 mm; Blade straightness: <0.1 mm per 100 mm
Hex keys CNC grinding from Ti wire (drawn to exact cross‑section) Across‑flats tolerance: ±0.02 mm; Corner radius: <0.05 mm

Coolant: Non‑ferromagnetic, recycled in closed‑loop system (zero discharge).

Step 2: Heat Treatment (Age Hardening)

Machined tools undergo solution treatment + aging to achieve final hardness:

  • Solution: 955°C for 1 hour, water quench
  • Aging: 480°C for 4 hours, air cool

Resulting hardness: 38–42 HRC (wrenches, screwdriver tips, hex keys). Tested per tool batch (3 samples per 100 pieces).

Step 3: Surface Finishing
Process Purpose Method
Bead blasting Matte finish, removes machining marks Glass beads (100–200 mesh), 60 psi
Passivation Restores oxide layer (corrosion resistance) Nitric acid bath (20% HNO₃, 30 min, 50°C)
Laser marking Permanent identification “Ti ≥90%” + size + serial number (no paint)

No coating – Jovvi does not apply titanium nitride (TiN) or any other coating that could hide a steel substrate.

Step 4: Assembly (Multi‑Component Tools)

Screwdrivers (blade + handle):

  • Blade: Grade 5 Ti, ground to final tip geometry
  • Handle: Brass (cast, then machined) or rubber over brass
  • Assembly: Blade pressed into handle with interference fit + epoxy (MRI‑safe, no ferromagnetic fillers)
  • Tang‑through: Blade extends full handle length (visual inspection hole confirms)

Torque wrenches (beam + spring + handle):

  • Beam: Grade 23 Ti (extra‑low interstitials for low‑temperature toughness)
  • Spring: Beryllium copper (Cu‑Be) – non‑magnetic, stable spring rate
  • Handle: Anodized aluminum (non‑magnetic)
  • Calibration: Each wrench tested at 5 points (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 N·m) ±5%

Ratchet handles (body + gear + pawl):

  • Body: Grade 5 Ti (machined)
  • Gear: Beryllium copper (60 teeth)
  • Pawl: Bronze (spring‑loaded by Be‑Cu wire)
  • Reverse lever: Brass (friction detent, no steel ball)
Step 5: 100% Magnetic Susceptibility Testing

Every tool passes through a SQUID magnetometer (ASTM F3042):

  • Test field: 0.5 T, 1 T, 3 T (ramped)
  • Acceptance criterion: χ < 5 × 10⁻⁶ (SI) at all fields
  • Rejection: Any tool exceeding limit is scrapped (not reworked)
Step 6: Final Inspection & Packaging
Inspection Tool Types Method Pass Criterion
Dimensional All Laser micrometer Within ±0.05 mm of nominal
Tip geometry Screwdrivers, hex keys Optical comparator (50×) Corner radius <0.05 mm
Jaw parallelism Wrenches Feel gauge + CMM Gap <0.1 mm at 10 N·m
Torque accuracy Torque wrenches Calibration stand ±5% of reading
Visual All Magnified LED inspection (10×) No cracks, pits, or machining burrs

Packaging: Each tool placed in custom foam insert inside ESD-safe ABS case (no steel hinges – brass or plastic clasps). Case labeled with “JOVVI Ti – MRI SAFE – DO NOT MIX WITH STEEL TOOLS”.

Batch Traceability

Every Jovvi tool is laser‑etched with:

  • Batch number (links to MTR, machining records, heat treatment log)
  • Serial number (unique per tool)
  • “Ti ≥90%” composition mark

Certificate of Conformance included in each kit lists batch test results.
