The chair folds in two dimensions: the backrest folds forward against the seat, and then the entire chair collapses laterally, reducing its size to 32 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 36 inches deep. The folding mechanism uses nylon hinges with brass pins and requires no tools. The folded chair can be stored in a wall-mounted bracket, under a desk, or in a storage closet. Unfolding takes less than 10 seconds: the user pulls the seat apart laterally, raises the backrest until it clicks, and locks the armrests into place. The chair includes an automatic lock that prevents folding while occupied – a pressure sensor in the seat (non-magnetic, mechanical) disengages the folding mechanism when weight is detected.

This wheelchair is intended for MRI facilities with limited storage space. Many MRI suites are located in areas of hospitals where space is at a premium; storing multiple wheelchairs can be challenging.
