The Heavy Duty Non-Magnetic Transport Wheelchair is a rugged, simplified wheelchair designed for high-volume, high-wear environments such as emergency departments, MRI suites in large hospitals, and patient transport services. The chair features a reinforced frame (extra-thick aluminum tubing, 0.125-inch wall vs. standard 0.085-inch), heavy-duty casters with sealed bearings, and puncture-proof solid rubber tires. There are no adjustable components – armrests are fixed (but padded), footrests are fixed (but swing away), and the backrest is fixed at 10 degrees of recline. The simplification reduces the number of parts that can break or become misaligned. The chair is also easy to clean: the seat is a seamless one-piece molding with no crevices, and the frame has an epoxy coating that resists hospital-grade disinfectants.
This wheelchair is for facilities that use wheelchairs constantly and need them to survive heavy use. In a busy MRI department that performs 50+ scans per day, wheelchairs are used for every patient. Standard wheelchairs wear out quickly – casters fail, brakes loosen, armrests break. This heavy-duty chair is designed to last five years or more under heavy use. The simplified design also makes it faster to clean between patients, reducing turnaround time. The chair is also suitable for use in the emergency department, where wheelchairs are subjected to rough handling, spills, and frequent disinfection.
